Outdoor Learning

Mrs. Effie has a great passion for the outdoors which she continually seeks to instill in her students.  The location of MCH was specifically chosen for the natural beauty of the creek, wildlife, trees and other plants.  Our outdoor space consists of three fenced playgrounds overlooking the picturesque greenery that lines Russell Creek.  MCH children often find themselves in nature’s classroom, exploring the wonders of everything from leaves and soil to watching the squirrels and rabbits.  Our young people develop a sense of responsibility and relationship with nature as they tend to the plants in the garden, observe a centipede crawling across a tree branch or inspect a feather dropped by an overhead eagle.

Throughout the year, we bring a variety of on-site field trips to our school. Many of these utilize our wonderful grounds, including the Petting Zoo, Hayrides, and our Summer Splash Days!  As a special treat for our Summer Campers, with their parent’s permission, we utilize the Hoblitzelle Park Trail to hike to a nearby turtle pond and park to enjoy even more of nature’s treasures.
